Consulting Chef David Thompson Wins Coveted Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award
We’re delighted to share with you the exciting news that the Aqua Mekong’s consulting chef, David Thompson, has been awarded the prestigious Diners Club International Lifetime Achievement Award for Asia as part of the 50 Best Restaurants Awards – Asia event held February 29th 2016 in Bangkok. The award recognizes Thompson’s many achievements in culinary creativity, his deep respect of traditional Thai recipes and cuisine and his generous support and mentoring of younger chefs.
We couldn’t be more thrilled as we announced our new 2019 Chef-hosted departures with David Thompson on the Aqua Mekong and also with Pedro Miguel Schiaffino on the Aqua Amazon.
Thompson’s Nahm restaurant which opened in 2010 in Bangkok was named Asia’s best by the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards in 2014 and is currently ranked Number 22 on the World’s Top 50 Restaurants and is ranked 7th on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list. His most recent launch, Long Chim (Thai for “come and taste”) at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, showcases the spices and diversity of Thai street food. Thompson recently opened a second Long Chim restaurant in Perth to rave reviews and has plans to open a third and fourth in Sydney and Hong Kong.
Thompson modestly describes his reaction to receiving this outstanding industry honor:
Much to the delight of our guests on the Aqua Mekong, Thompson released a new set of upriver and downriver menus on the Aqua Mekong just last month highlighting Cambodian and Vietnamese regional specialties:
We congratulate David Thompson on this tremendous industry honor and are thrilled to be able to continue showcase his many talents on board the Aqua Mekong.
